6 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YOUR MATTRESS THAT MAY SURPRISE YOU
You may not think about your mattress that much (it’s just a mattress, right?). But really, we spend a lot of our time in bed. It is place where we begin our day and end our days, and the average person spends up to 1/3 of their lifetime in their bed! That’s a lot of time spent with something that you don’t even think about.
Today we are sharing the six most interesting facts about your mattress – some you may never have heard before!
Fact #1: LOCALLY MADE
Our Serta mattresses are made right here in Michigan! There are multiple Serta plants located throughout the country, but all of our products come from the Michigan plant.
Fact #2: YOU’RE NOT SLEEPING ALONE
You may have heard of the phrase “hit the hay” from way back in the day. The origin of this phrase comes from when people used to have mattresses made of hay. The phrase “sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite” also started with these hay stacks of mattresses because tiny bugs would live there. However, TempurPedic and Serta mattresses are anti-microbial, so dust mites cannot multiply in your mattress! And we also recommend mattress protectors to protect the bed from staining and any dead skin cells you shed regularly.
Fact #3: IT WON’T CATCH ON FIRE
Don’t worry about your bed catching on fire because since 2007 it is a federal law that all mattresses must be flame-retardant!
Fact #4: BUYING A MATTRESS IS ILLEGAL?
In the state of Washington, it is illegal to purchase a mattress on Sunday (just one of those weird laws). But fortunately, it IS legal in Michigan and Feige’s is open on Sundays from 12:00PM-5:00PM, and you can purchase all the mattresses you want!
Fact #5: HIDE IT AWAY
In 1900 a man named Mr. Murphy invented “the Murphy bed”, that folds up vertically against the wall when not in use.
