Tips for a Better Night’s Sleep

Posted on March 14th, 2018 by feigesinteriors.

From work worries to raising a family, stress is one of the many things that often keep us up at night. Making your bedroom a reprieve from the daily chaos will help you get a better night’s sleep. Here are a few tips and tricks you can use in your bedroom to create a space to sleep better at night:

Declutter the Room

Organizing your room (and keeping it that way!) can create a calmer space and significantly reduce stress. Keeping your space clean and minimizing clutter will help you minimize your stress and quickly drift off to a peaceful sleep. Finding convenient storage is key to keeping your space organized. Beds with built-in storage, like the Stickley Highlands Bed (which you can see on display in the showroom now!), are a perfect way to add storage without congesting the flow of the room.

Make Your Bed Cozy

Of course, the most important element of the bedroom is the bed itself. Investing in a high-quality memory foam mattress, will help you stay comfortably asleep throughout the night and allow you to wake up refreshed and ready to take on your day. Don’t forget to add supportive pillows and crisp, fresh sheets!

Create a Calming Space

When designing your bedroom, it’s important to consider how each element adds to the aesthetic, and also how it contributes to creating a calm environment.

The theme of your room should be peaceful and relaxing. Consider a paint color that is soft and easy on your eyes like a calming grey, icy blue or a soothing neutral green. You can also add cozy elements here such as fluffy, fuzzy pillows, a cuddly throw blanket or a coordinating rug to warm up your floor.

We also love to use a Lampe Berger lamp with Lavender Fields or Calming Cotton scents to create a quieting mood before bed.

Keep It Cool

Keeping your sleeping space cool helps you avoid waking up in the middle of the night from the discomfort that comes from overheating. Experts recommend keeping your bedroom between 60 – 67 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the ideal temperature for a good night’s sleep.

Some memory-foam mattresses like what you’ll see in our showroom from Tempur-pedic, include innovative cooling technology to keep you cool throughout the night.

Do a Digital Detox

The blue light emitted from the television and other electronic devices (we’re looking at you iPhone!) prevents you from falling asleep. Dedicate your bedroom to sleep instead of “wind down while watching the TV” time in order to get you in the mindset for slumber as soon as you get under the covers.

If you’re missing that “something on the wall,” in place of a television, try hanging a tranquil piece of nature-inspired art or a mirror.
